Generator Enclosure Kit
for outdoor mounting of portable generators

Converts the popular GS2000 garden shed
into an enclosure for your portable generator
(shed not included, obtain locally or from www.sears.com)

The PowerShelter™ Kit is designed to convert the popular GS2000 garden shed so it can house your portable generator outdoors for both storage and operation.  It has been carefully engineered to be user installed and easy to open for access to the generator for starting and refueling.   It is then closed and locked while the generator is running.

 

Design Features

  • Weather resistant design for both storage and operation of generator
  • PowerShelter Kit parts are fabricated from heavy gauge galvanized steel for better weather resistance
  • Large ventilation openings to dissipate engine and exhaust heat
  • The external parts are finished to match the garden shed color with included spray paint
  • Vents are screened to keep out birds, rodents, etc.
  • PowerShelter Kit is designed for sound attenuation to reduce noise when generator is running.
  • High capacity fan to cool engine in most cases results in lower operating temperatures than when the generator is operated in the open (promotes longer genset life)
  • Kit comes with detailed assembly and installation instructions along with all hardware
  • Fan is powered from spare 120VAC outlet on generator and is thermostatically controlled for better engine warm-up in cold weather
  • Large roomy interior allows for generators up to about 33" long x 26" wide x 31" tall
  • Safety switch shuts off fan when PowerShelter is opened to reduce possibility for personal injury
  • Accepts any air cooled generator with right or left mounted engine (not recommended for water-cooled gensets)
  • PowerShelter is pad-lockable to keep your generator secure from theft
  • Suitable for gasoline, diesel, natural gas or propane fueled gensets
  • Kit parts are reversible for generators with either right hand or left hand mounted engine
  • PowerShelter Kit can be used with recoil or electric start models
  • PowerShelter can be easily opened to provide access to front and top of generator - great for recoil starting, refueling and oil changes

Storing your generator in this shelter frees up storage space in your garage, shed or basement for other uses
  • High temperature cutout provided to shutdown generator if fan cooling is lost (reduces chance for engine damage or fire if fan stops running)

Makes it easier to startup and connect your generator during a power outage because it is always ready to go -- no dragging generator outside during the outage or bad weather to use it.

 

PowerShelter Kit comes with detailed assembly instructions.  After the garden shed is assembled the installation of the PowerShelter Kit takes a couple hours.  The major installation steps are:

  1. Use included spray can to paint two exterior parts.
  2. Select method for routing power cable out of shed.
  3. Cut four rectangular vent holes in shed with any hand saw.
  4. Drill screw pilot holes in shed locations specified.
  5. Mount two rain shields.
  6. Mount fan to fan support and install in shed.
  7. Mount top barrier with safety switch.
  8. Mount exhaust deflector inside shed.
  9. Install high temperature cutout on generator.

 

Outside dimensions with PowerShelter Kit installed are 73" L x 39" D x 39" H in the closed configuration and 73" L x 61" D x 65" H when opened.  Maximum generator size 33" long x 26" wide x 31" tall.  When measuring your generator be sure to allow for cable(s) and plugs that may project beyond the generator dimensions.  There is only a few inches clearance to the inside walls of the enclosure that can be used for these plugs and cables.

We have designed this kit with safety in mind.  However, whenever fuel is used to operate an engine generator there is always a risk due to fire, exhaust gases and electric shock.  This kit will not eliminate those risks.   Therefore we must provide the following statement.  WARNING -- failure to follow the directions for construction and use of this unit can cause serious injury to persons and property.  Read all directions fully before attempting to modify your shed and use only as directed.
