A hydroelectric system requires more than just the turbine and generator.

For a complete system you will also need a diversion load controller, diversion load, dc-to-ac inverter, switchgear, battery bank, wire and cable, water intake screen, piping and valves, weather protected powerhouse, etc. We can quote most of these items. Total system cost is several times the cost of the turbine alone.

If you are comparing to a PV solar system keep in mind that the Wattage of a hydroelectric turbine generates more than five times the electricity as a similar Wattage solar system because hydro runs 24 hours per day.

In the USA access to water and the use, control and diversion of water flows is subject to federal and state regulation. This is true regardless of whether or not the stream is on private property. Be sure to read Regulation of Hydro Projects on our Hydroelectric Information page before ordering.
