House UPS System
2400 watt, 115/230VAC
Our House UPS systems fill a market niche between portable generators and automatic standby generators. Most power outages last less than a couple hours and these systems easily provide backup AC power for that length of time. These systems are silent and fully automatic and transfer extremely fast when line power is lost.
How does the House UPS operate?
The House UPS System consists of an inverter, charger, transfer relay, transformer, multi-circuit transfer switch and cables. With the addition of a deep cycle battery bank this system will provide AC power to a few household circuits pre-selected by the user. During the power outage, the user can re-select the circuits that are provided power. For long outages when the batteries are nearly discharged the user can plug the UPS supply cable into a portable generator to continue providing backup power for the household circuits while recharging the UPS battery bank.

We provide everything you need to install an operational system except for one double-pole circuit breaker that must be installed in your load center breaker panel. If you want to be able to provide backup power for a long-term power outage you will also need a portable generator (not included). Even though we provide terminal covers for the batteries we recommend the user build some sort of box to enclose the battery bank. Items that are included are listed below. Click here for diagram that also shows the items that are included.
| * Inverter/Charger/Relay Unit * Output Transformer * Main Battery Fuse and Holder * battery cables * Transfer Switch - 10 circuit |
* AC Input Cord - 25' with Plug * AC Output Cord with Connector * AC Cord - Transformer * 12V gel cell maint-free lead acid batteries |
We do not provide the double-pole circuit breaker for your load center panel due to the many brands of panels. Purchase one locally that fits your panel. It should be rated 20 amps or 30 amps and match your generator 120/240VAC receptacle amp rating. Wet-cell deep cycle batteries can be purchased at most retailers that sell automotive batteries. We have successfully tested and used 115 amp hour deep cycle batteries purchased at a local retailer for about $70 each. Sufficient cables are provided to connect up to 4 batteries with 5/16" stud terminals and wing nuts.
What if I already have a generator transfer switch?
We can sell you this House UPS System without the transfer switch at a cost savings to you. However, be sure you have the correct type of switch. It MUST be a 120/240VAC multi-circuit transfer switch with inlet for cord on front similar to the Gen/Tran, Pro/Tran or Coleman models below. These switches allow you to INDIVIDUALLY transfer household circuits one at a time to the generator. Some switch and panel models (usually the type that have molded case circuit breakers) are not suitable because you have to transfer ALL circuits to the generator. Click any of the underlined model numbers to see details.
